The Post Anaesthesia Care Unit within the Surgical Clinical Business Unit provides specialized, systematic and individualized care to Adult and Pediatric patients who are recovering from elective or emergency surgery. Perianesthesia nursing practice includes patient care, education, management, consultation, advocacy and research. Orientation program to PACU is individually structured and competency based.

Qualifications:
-Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
-Minimum two years recent experience in Adult and/or Paediatric Surgical/Critical Care nursing
-Recent Perianaesthesia nursing experience an asset
-Demonstrated skills in providing perianaesthesia instruction/education to patient and families
-Demonstrated understanding of Perianesthesia nursing
-Basic ECG Interpretation
-Demonstrated excellent clinical skills
-Demonstrated independence in clinical practice
-Evidence of commitment to professional development and self directed learning
-Proven ability to function productively in a very demanding environment with a large patient turnover
-Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
-Demonstrated initiative and ability to work individually and as an effective team member
-Demonstrated warmth, interest, and empathy in interactions with patients/family/staff
-Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and ability to manage change in a dynamic environment
-Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
