Phobia and Management

PHOBIA is an irrational fear of an object or a situation that persists although the person may recognize it as unreasonable. Sometimes it is associated with anxiety if the object, situation or activity is inevitable. Mostly, the person who disposes any type of phobia displays repression and displacement as defense mechanisms.

Managing Phobia:
1. Promote safety and security
2. Identify the cause of fear
3. Allow expression of feelings
4. Gradually introduce the individual to the feared object or situation in small doses.
5. Do not force the individaul to have contact with the feared of object, when the individual is not ready yet.

Full time RN opportunity, shift is variable days with on-call rotation in our busy Operating Room. The successful candidate will provide monitoring/assessment of the patient receiving conscious sedation, assume responsibility for knowledge of surgical procedures and associated nursing care, perform scrub duties according to surgical protocol (OB/GYN, neurology, and general emphasis on orthopedics). Must have strong clinical skills, work well with others, and have ability to multi-task. Must demonstrate ability to properly utilize all equipment for specific procedures. 1-3 yrs OR experience required. Current RN license, BCLS required.

• Assesses plans and evaluates patient care needs.
• Carries out physician orders.
• Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs.
• Provides respiratory and ventilator management and monitoring for patients.
• Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care.
• Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
• Instructs and educates patients and families.
• Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
• Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
• Orients and mentors new staff members.
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications include:
• Current licensure as an RN.
• Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider (and ACLS preferred).
• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
